I love Shannon's Works for Me Wednesday posts. I find such cool information and tips there to use. If you've never checked it out, you should.
Anyway, I've been meaning to post this for awhile now, but haven't for whatever reason. Now that our house is up for sale, I thought I had better do it before we leave.
One thing I like to do with the girls is take them to the library (usually once every two weeks). Aside from storytime and all the books, there is a particular spot we love. In the corner of the kids' section is a sofa, rug and lots of toys to play with. My girls love the magnetic wall. I believe it's here that E first learned to put words together (well, there and the bathtub with foam letters). I would tell her to spell C-A-T, then H-A-T and so on. She had the best time searching for the large magnetic letters to put on the wall.
Because my girls enjoyed that wall so much, I was determined to have one in my house. I researched magnetic paint and found out it was sold at Michael's here in town. I, then searched for magnetic letters (after realizing I didn't have the patience to make my own). I found the letters here.
I came home and in one afternoon painted our magnetic wall in the basement and then painted a red frame around it.
This is such a great tool to teach children to identify letters, numbers and put words together. Works for me!

I know I just love that idea too, and I love putting the letter on the wall then taking them off again with O. Everyone who has children or planning on having children need a board. I would love to have one.
oh i love it love it love it...i knew you could do a chalkboard and a dry board wall but didn't know they had magnetic walls too. I'm sitting here right now planning on where to put up a wall for my son in a year or so! (he's 7 weeks old).. :) thanks!!!
I have a can of magnetic paint and I have wanted to use it. I still want to use it! I'm glad to hear a real testimonial.
I love this idea and really want to try it here! I wonder if I can find magnetic paint in Russia? or maybe I'll have to bring it back on our next trip to the States . . .
how big was the can? : )
I love this!! You did such a great job! I love the red border around it!
What a great idea- and it looks adorable.
What a fabulous idea, Deidre! Thanks for stopping by Nesting Instincts. You have a lovely blog! And that was a great idea you left there, too. :-) Come again!
This would be a great alternative to having all those letters and the Leap Frog letter game thing on my fridge. I'm going to keep this in mind!!
Love your blog design!
Thanks for visiting and commenting today.
Hey D,
Did I read you posted this at 5:11AM - is there a 5:11AM - I didn't know~
Anyway, - I love this. When we were at your house last week - I saw it from a distance when I went to get L, but I thought it was a chalk board - I had no idea it was a magnetic wall - how cool....now where could I do this in the girls playroom.....
Thanks~
Deidre~
What a GREAT idea!!! I've made a small chalk board out of a frame and have it hanging in our entry way. They are so fun and cute.
Perhaps you'll receive a phone call from a potential buyer asking if you have a magnetic board in your basement?? lol...to me..that would be a HUGE plus!!
Kim~
